A beginner chess book that explains theory and not just tactics?

I'm looking for an introductory book to chess tactics, especially one that will talk about the theory behind various moves and not just list them. In other words a book that can get me thinking about chess in the right way, instead of just memorizing thousands of plays - one that will teach me overall themes.
